What Is Inpatient Mental Health Rehab?

Our inpatient rehab program provides a structured, supportive setting where individuals can focus entirely on stabilizing their mental health. This level of care is designed for voluntary clients who need residential psychiatric treatment but do not require hospitalization or emergency intervention.

In our subacute program, each person receives a personalized treatment plan built around their specific symptoms and goals. Care may include individual and group therapy with licensed clinicians, psychiatric evaluation and medication management, and access to therapeutic recreational areas for activities such as art, movement, sports and relaxation. The goal is to offer a safe, calming environment where healing can begin and real progress can be made.

How Dual Diagnosis Can Help

Many people use drugs or alcohol to ease the distress of a mental health condition, but this kind of self-medication often backfires. Substance use may offer brief relief, yet it ultimately intensifies symptoms, disrupts functioning and makes mental health harder to manage. When a mental health disorder and a substance use disorder occur together, addressing only one rarely leads to lasting progress — both conditions need to be treated simultaneously for recovery to be effective.

Unlike many programs that treat either addiction or mental health but not both, The Recovery Village South Atlanta specializes in integrated, dual diagnosis care. Our licensed clinicians not only provide treatment for each condition, they also help you understand how the two interact so you can heal more fully and build a stronger foundation for long-term stability.

PAYING FOR TREATMENT

Using Insurance for Inpatient Rehab

We understand that cost is an important consideration when exploring inpatient treatment. Many insurance plans offer partial or full coverage for behavioral health care, and The Recovery Village works with most major and regional insurers. To learn what your plan covers, you can visit our insurance page and verify your benefits.

Our Inpatient Mental Health Program FAQs

How long is your mental health rehab program?

The length of inpatient mental health treatment depends on each person’s unique needs and progress. For most clients, residential care typically lasts between two and four weeks.

Following your recommended treatment plan is one of the most important factors in achieving lasting recovery, and we strongly encourage clients to complete the full course of care. While participation is voluntary and you may choose to leave at any time, including against medical advice, doing so can interrupt progress and reduce the effectiveness of treatment.

Yes. Individuals who have finished acute inpatient psychiatric care elsewhere and need continued support before returning to everyday life can transition into our subacute residential program for ongoing stabilization and treatment.”

From the moment you begin treatment, our case management team starts preparing for your transition back into daily life. They coordinate referrals to outpatient therapists, community programs and local mental health resources so you have consistent support and a clear plan in place when you leave residential care.

Our dual diagnosis program is designed to treat substance use disorders and mental health conditions together, recognizing that lasting recovery requires addressing both sides of the equation. During admission, our medical team conducts a comprehensive assessment to determine whether the mental health track or the substance use track is the most appropriate starting point for your needs.

If you are admitted for mental health treatment but also need support for substance use, you will begin with medical detox to ensure your safety and stability. After detox, you’ll continue in our mental health wing and participate in additional addiction-focused groups and therapeutic services tailored to your symptoms.

If substance use is your primary concern, your care will begin with medical detox followed by inpatient rehab alongside others in addiction recovery. Your mental health needs will still be addressed through integrated therapy, medication management and individualized support within the addiction-focused program.

In both pathways, our clinicians work to ensure that your mental health and substance use challenges are treated together, providing a comprehensive approach that supports long-term healing.

Many inpatient programs, including The Recovery Village Atlanta in Stockbridge, accept insurance, and your plan may cover a portion or the full cost of residential treatment. If you’re uninsured, private pay arrangements may also be available. To understand your coverage, you can visit our insurance page to verify your benefits — we work with most major local and national insurance providers.

There are legal protections in place for people who need time away from work to address behavioral health concerns. Under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), eligible employees may take job-protected leave while receiving mental health treatment from a qualified provider. However, FMLA eligibility varies, and not all individuals will meet the requirements for this benefit.

Mental health challenges can sometimes make it difficult to care for your children, and custody decisions depend on many individual factors. In most cases, seeking treatment and working toward recovery strengthens your ability to maintain or regain custody. Many parents choose to have a trusted family member care for their children while they focus on getting the help they need.
